Behind the scenes at a fashion photography photoshoot.
Several years ago I was commissioned by MF Magazine to shoot the fashion editorial for a piece on Helene Hawthorne designs, featuring the magazine’s model contest winner Cori Ayers. We shot at the always visually interesting Trinity Nightclub in Seattle. Their numerous rooms with drastically different styles allowed me to create many different looks. I was lucky enough to have my buddy Kelly Baily there to shoot a behind the scenes video of the fashion editorial photoshoot.
The key to any shoot is, of course, the team. While certainly a photographer brings their eye and artistic vision to the table, they also bring the ability to build a well functioning team and impart a shared vision to them. I love this part of the job. For one, you just get the chance meet some really cool people, people that can do things you can’t do, people who will share your passion. This shoot was no different. We had Caitlin Fisher (MUA) and Andy Tseng (Hair) rocking the beauty. Cori Ayers was our fantastic model wearing designs from Helene Hawthorne fashion. Chira Vathanaprida played the role of assistant I couldn’t live without. And finally, the amazing video above was put together by Kelly Baily of Dead Channel. It was a great day, a fun shoot, and a final fashion editorial that we were all very pleased with: Black is the new Black.
